Villanueva, Bucks crush short-handed Knicks

11/21/2008 - Milwaukee, WI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Charlie Villanueva scored 20 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Milwaukee Bucks in a 104-87 victory over the New York Knicks.

Andrew Bogut scored 14 points and hauled in 17 boards for the Bucks, who saw their three-game slide become history. Ramon Sessions had 15 points and 10 helpers, while Richard Jefferson ended with 11 points.

"The 10 assists aren't any good without my teammates hitting shots," said Sessions. "It was a win for us tonight. We got the win, so that was big for us. We needed this one."

Chris Duhon had 20 points and Nate Robinson gave 19 and 10 rebounds for the Knicks, who have dropped three straight. David Lee had 13 points and 12 boards, while Wilson Chandler tallied 13 points in defeat.

The Knicks made a couple of big trades on Friday, including a trade of guard Jamal Crawford to the Golden State Warriors for forward Al Harrington. Later on Friday, the Knicks announced they swapped forward Zach Randolph and guard Mardy Collins to the Clippers for guard Cuttino Mobley and forward Tim Thomas.

Milwaukee assumed a 28-19 lead after the first quarter, but the Knicks closed to 50-47 at the half.

A Jefferson three-pointer and two baskets from Charlie Bell gave the Bucks a 57-47 lead with 8:46 left in the third frame.

The Knicks couldn't close within six points the rest of the frame and Milwaukee held a 72-60 lead heading into the fourth stanza.

"I think we ran out of gas tonight," Knicks head coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I thought the effort was there and that we had a chance for three quarters and the bottom caved in. We will just start working from here and go forward."

Nine straight Bucks points to open the fourth gave Milwaukee an 81-60 cushion. Villanueva's tip-in sparked the run and he ended with six of the points on the burst, as the Bucks never looked back from there.

Marlins could start season without No. 2 starter Johnson

JUPITER, Fla. -- The Foorida Marlins are preparing for the likelihood that right-hander
Josh Johnson won't be ready when the season starts April 2.

Grapefruit League action starts Wednesday, but Johnson, penciled in as the No. 2 starter, hasn't even thrown off a mound at full speed since September. He's experienced some soreness in his right forearm.

MySportsbook.com have the Marlins listed with baseball betting lines at +800 to win the NL East this season .

''You guys know the math. If he's not on the hill then he becomes an opening day roster issue,'' manager Fredi Gonzalez said Saturday. ''We're borderline now.''

Johnson, who finished 12-7 with a 3.10 ERA in 2007, was supposed to throw on flat ground Saturday. That was canceled when he woke up with pain.

He played catch on Wednesday with no pain but felt discomfort in a throwing session on Thursday. He's expected to try again Sunday.

''Like we always said from the very beginning, we're going to take it easy on him,'' Gonzalez said. ''He didn't feel right, so we shut him down. We're going to take it back to step one and see where we're at.''

Among the candidates to take Johnson's spot in the rotation are left-hander Chris George and right-handers Yusmeiro Petit and Jose Garcia.

Right-hander Sergio Mitre, who missed most of last season with arm and shoulder problems, also is behind.

With Johnson's status doubtful, Gonzalez said right-hander Ricky Nolasco will stay in the rotation and no longer will be considered a candidate for closer.
